Football’s Forgotten Tour The Story of the British Australian Rules Venture of 1888

Exploration of the British Australian Rules venture of 1888 in which three English cricketers and entrepreneurs – Arthur Shrewsbury, Alfred Shaw, and James Lillywhite – brought out a team of British rugby players for a series of matches in Australian and New Zealand. During their stay the team also played 19 games of Australian Rules football, including a victory game over Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Looks at these forgotten games, as well as Shrewsbury’s failed attempt to induce an Australian team to tour Britain.
