Follows on from Lonely graves of Western Australia & burials at sea. Biographical dictionary. Detailed entries of Western Australian ‘bush burials.’
More Lonely Graves of Western Australia by Yvonne Coate and Kevin Coate is a major reference work dedicated to recording isolated and unregistered burial sites across Western Australia.
Published in 2000 by Hesperian Press, the book is the follow-up volume to the authors’ earlier research documenting lonely graves throughout the state.
“Lonely graves” refers to burials located outside recognised cemeteries or churchyards. In the early years of settlement, many individuals were buried in remote locations such as settlers’ properties, private family cemeteries, mining leases, roadside sites, coastal islands, or even at sea. These graves often marked sudden deaths in isolated regions or circumstances where formal burial grounds were not available.
This extensive volume contains thousands of carefully compiled entries, each recording details of burial locations, individuals, and circumstances where known. The work also includes unidentified graves and lesser-known burial sites across Western Australia.
Features of the book include:
-
Detailed listings of lonely graves across the state
-
Records of burials on farms, mining areas, and remote districts
-
Documentation of unidentified graves and forgotten burial sites
-
Ship burial references and maritime-related burials
-
A ship index and place name index
-
Black-and-white photographs and maps
Importantly, the authors note that this volume is designed to complement — not replace — the earlier Lonely Graves of Western Australia or the Western Australian Burial Location Index.
Highly regarded by historians, genealogists, and local researchers, the book provides an invaluable record of many otherwise forgotten individuals and burial places across the state.
An essential reference for collectors of Western Australian history, genealogy, cemetery records, and regional historical research.
