This is the history of the ‘blue funnel”(Alfred Holt & Co.) ships in the Second World War. This company was one of the best shipping companies before the start of the war. The ships were well maintained(not true of many of the British shipping companies) and most of their ships were manned by the same crew on every trip. Many of this fleets ships were sunk in the war, This book tells the story of each ships sinking in detail and also describes the service of most of the other ships this company owned.
The long and ferocious struggle for seaborne supplies on the ships of the Holt Line. Loss of 44 owned and 8 managed ships, including Centaur off the coast of Queensland.
