The fascinating – and unknown – story of the Rag Tag Fleet, a collection of hundreds of Australian fishing trawlers and schooners, organised by the US Army, which transported vital supplies for US and Australian forces across the South-East Pacific.Boys under the age of 17 and men over 60, and those who weren’t well enough to join the Australian regular forces formed the crews. Each boat was armed with one machine gun – and sailed under the American flag. Conditions on the boats were grim.
