ART –
In 1995 Christo and Jeanne-Claude completed the wrapping of the German Parliament – the Reichstag – after 24 years. This book and accompanying exhibition follows the 24-year project. It covers the negotiations with officials and bureaucrats, and the permit required from the German Bundestag. It was the first work of art which was debated and voted on by an elected parliament, even before its existence. In total Christo and Jeanne-Claude used one million square feet of woven polypropylene fabric and 51.181 feet of blue rope to wrap the large Victorian building. The book also contains photographs, drawings, collages and real objects from the actual wrapping.
