ART CRAFT –

Learn how to create the Oriental look of crackled glazed pottery with this informative reference. Includes sources for materials, tested clay and glaze recipes, as well as finishing techniques.

Raku ceramics are a type of pottery known for their unique surface and color variations achieved through a specific firing process. The process involves firing pottery at a low temperature, then quickly removing it from the kiln while still glowing hot and placing it into a container with combustible material like paper or sawdust. This “smoking” or reduction process creates a variety of effects, including crazing (cracking) in the glaze, blackening of the clay, and unique colour patterns.
