Huon Pine is a rare, slow-growing softwood native to Tasmania, widely considered one of the world’s most premium and durable timbers. Highly prized for its rich golden color, fine grain, and distinct perfume, it is heavily sought after for fine furniture, cabinetry, and boat-building.

Because these trees grow incredibly slowly (taking roughly 500 years to reach timber size) and are strictly protected, raw logging of live trees is prohibited. The limited commercial supply comes almost entirely from strict salvage operations. This includes harvesting ancient dead logs trapped at the bottom of hydro-electric lakes or recovering previously discarded timber left behind by early pioneers.
