WEST AUSTRALIANA –

Every port city has its share of raffish characters and legendary stories. Fremantle is no exception. Take a stroll around the streets of this famous dockside city with longtime resident, writer and raconteur, Ron Davidson.

Fremantle Impressions explores the city’s character and charm, its rich and colourful array of stories, people and places. Vividly brought to life and filled with rare historic photographs, Fremantle Impressions is a must-have for anyone interested in port cities and the lives of those that dwell there.

Ron Davidson was born into a newspaper family in Perth, Western Australia, and, at age eight, was introduced to Fremantle by his editor-father who gave him an idiosyncratic slant on the port city. The same year a school friend showed him life in a noisy lumpers’ pub in High Street, run by his father. This early fascination with Fremantle was lasting. He has lived in the same heritage-listed house in Fremantle for thirty years. Ron has worked as a journalist in Australia and overseas, and taught social psychology at the University of Western Australia. His published works include The Divided Kingdom, with Connie Ellement (1987), High Jinks at the Hot Pool (1993), and Anything But Ordinary, with Cecile Dorwood (2000);  287 p. : ill., 1 map ; 20 cm.
