The author had already spent four years with the National Parks, and was on the wrong side of 50, when he ‘stuck his neck out’ for the mammoth task of moulding 17,543 ha. of bush into an organised Park (including the Pinnacles). Knowing full well it had always been a fisherman’s playground (Cervantes etc), and there were shacks dotted along 12 km. of coastline, which had to be removed.
However, a good sense of humour, a sympathetic ear, and an intense love of nature, made the task not only tolerable, but interesting and rewarding.
Nambung National Park is a national park in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, 200 km northwest of Perth, Australia and 17 km south of the small coastal town of Cervantes. The park contains the Pinnacles Desert which is an area with thousands of limestone formations called pinnacles.
