Alan King had one burning ambition, to be a surgeon. He financed his studies in Edinburgh by working as a Flying Doctor in Wyndham. While incarcerated in German POW camps during World War 2 he learned how to treat tuberculosis and this became his most important contribution to Australian medicine.
