A VFR (Visual Flight Rules) flight is when a pilot flies an aircraft by visually navigating using landmarks and the ground, requiring good weather (Visual Meteorological Conditions or VMC) for “see and avoid” separation from terrain and other planes, unlike IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) where pilots rely on instruments and Air Traffic Control in any weather. VFR flights offer more freedom but demand excellent visibility, and pilots must maintain minimum altitudes, typically 1,000 feet above obstacles or people, with specific rules varying by country and airspace.
