The end of WW2 saw one of the largest mass migrations ever seen in Europe. Australia needed many new workers, so Britain and Australia offered £10 subsidised passages on a fleet of vessels, including the Asturias, Georgic, Canberra, Oriana and Britanis. Companies such as Chandris and P&O made small fortunes from these voyages, which peaked in the 1960s, but continued until the 1970s.
