ASTERIX French Language Edition –

Julius Caesar taunts Cleopatra  : the Romans are building magnificent palaces, temples, and forums, while the Egyptians haven’t built anything since the pyramids . Annoyed, the queen orders her architect, Numerobis, to build a palace for Caesar in three months. For him, the only chance of completing this task despite the Romans’ obstruction is to ask for help from his old friend Getafix . The druid therefore travels to Egypt to lend a hand, accompanied by Asterix and Obelix .

In Alexandria, the Gauls discover the construction site of the palace and learn that the architect Amonbofis , a rival jealous of not having been chosen for the project, intends to sabotage his colleague’s work, starting by provoking a workers’ strike. Getafix then distributes magic potion to the workers, significantly increasing their efficiency. Amonbofis then orders his assistant, Screwdriver , to block the supply of stones south of the Nile. Asterix, Obelix, and Getafix set off to find a new shipment of stones themselves. On the way, after Obelix breaks the nose of the Sphinx of Giza while trying to climb it, the Gauls are trapped inside a pyramid at Giza by Screwdriver, but manage to escape. They then return to the construction site with the stones.

Amonbofis has a new idea to eliminate the Gauls: offer Cleopatra a poisoned cake on their behalf. She has the Gauls arrested, but they manage to convince her that the cake isn’t poisoned by eating it, which they survive thanks to an antidote from Panoramix that they had previously drunk. Released and pardoned, they capture Amonbofis and take him to the construction site with Screwdriver.

Meanwhile, Caesar, jealous that the construction site had progressed so quickly, sent a spy to gather information. The spy informed him of the Gauls’ presence and their magic potion. Caesar sent his troops to destroy the palace, but Asterix alerted Cleopatra, who quickly arrived to stop Caesar’s men. Ashamed, Caesar called off the attack and ordered his legions to repair the damage.

The palace was thus finished on time, and Caesar admitted that he had lost his bet. A grand feast was organized before the Gauls returned to Gaul for the final banquet.

A few days later, Abraracourcix disapproves of the Egyptian influence manifested in the way Obélix cuts the menhirs: the obelisk cut.
