MILITARY GENERAL –

Originally published in South Africa under the title Only My Friends Call Me ‘Croucks’, this 482-page military memoir provides a raw, ground-level account of the Rhodesian Bush War. The conflict spanned from the 1960s to 1979, pitting the regular and elite units of the Rhodesian Army against guerrilla factions.

Warrant Officer Dennis Croukamp served across multiple elite units, including the Rhodesian Light Infantry (RLI) and the Selous Scouts Reconnaissance Troop. His memoir covers a wide range of combat operations, including:

  • Cross-border reconnaissance missions
  • HALO (High-Altitude Low-Opening) jumps behind enemy lines
  • Demolition missions, ambushes, and prisoner snatches
  • A notable six-day escape and evasion (E&E) survival track behind enemy lines
  • Because Paladin Press has ceased operations, this book is now out of print and considered a scarce collector’s item.
  • pp. xvii, 463 illusts #140926
