MEDICAL WEST AUSTRALIANA –
Researcher Roz Davies has compiled a history of Hollywood Hospital. Built during World War II to treat returning casualties, the hospital was an Army-run resource until 1947, complete with armed guards stationed at the front gate. The Veteran Affairs Department then took on responsibility for the ‘repat’ hospital and in 1994 private operator Ramsay Health Care bought it, with fewer veterans needing the treatment. There have been attempts to write a history of the hospital, but no- one has had a real go at it and nowadays it’s hard to find a project that hasn’t been done in its entirety.
